My travel style

It isn't until you start to travel that you realise people have their own styles. I don't think we can all necessarily be put into groups like 'budget traveller' or 'luxury traveller'. Instead, I think we are all a lovely little mix of quirky travel bits and bobs. There is no right or wrong way to travel, it just is what it is.

Life would be boring if we all traveled in the same way. No two travelers are looking for the same thing out of their experience and why should they? I mean, I can't think of anything worse than doing a 50 day Contiki across Europe - but some people love that shit.

My travel style?

I want to SEE history for myself
I know that we should accept other people's travel styles, but I really can't fathom how people aren't interested at least a tiny bit in history. It's all well and good visiting the Notre Dame or Westminster Abbey and getting a photo, but don't you bloody want to know when it was built? I like to read every plaque and every information brochure. I want to gaze at something and understand the role it has played in that city. History is the coolest.

I don't need a plan
Well, obviously I need a tiny sort of plan. But in terms of scheduling my time, I am pretty laid back. I am quite happy to just grab a map and wander. I don't like the feeling of travel being a race. I don't NEED to make sure I am at a monument by 10am, so I can have lunch at 12pm and be onto the next site at 2pm. Whatever happes, happens.

I'm not scared to be a tourist
I don't know why there is a negative connotation when it comes to the word 'tourist' As soon as we journey somewhere new, we are tourists. I embrace this. Being a tourist is special - it means you have traveled somewhere that is foreign to you. That's pretty damn lucky if you ask me.

I'm all about the journey
This may be something I tell myself to endure long, cheap bus rides - but seriously, it IS all about the journey. Sometimes if you are too intent on getting somewhere, you miss the scenery and the small moments that are actually just the big moment broken down. The journey is half the fun.

I want goosebumps
To me, travel isn't necessarily about the fun (although don't get me wrong, I do enjoy fun). I like going somewhere and experiencing something so raw that it gives me goosebumps. If my eyes have welled up with tears, I have felt something, and to me that is an invaluable travel experience.

I try to do it on the cheap
I'm living in London. I don't have the cash to splash around on a hotel room. But a 20 person mixed dorm? Just. I enjoy staying in Hostels. I know that I won't do it forever, but while I am young and poor - I will live it up.

I ask a lot of questions
If I meet you when I travel (or just in life generally), I want to know where you were born, where you are going, what your childhood pet was called and how many brothers and sisters you have. I am genuinely curious. I want to know peoples stories. One of my favourite parts about traveling is meeting people.

I don't find it hard to say yes
This severely hurts my bank account, but fuck it - why have a little nest of money in your bank account when you can have memories and experiences filling up your heart. I don't believe in waiting for the right time. There is no right time. There is now and now you should bloody stop being a pussy and say YES.

What is your travel style?
